2021 Introductions from CT Daylily

This year we have 6 introductions---all Tets. I don't like cookie cutter names but prefer those that are somewhat whimsical and may make you smile. All plants have been grown outside without any protection in our Zone 6-5b climate. I am passionate about animals and music, and this is reflected in some names I have selected.
We experienced a near drought situation in summer and this affected the stats for bud count, branching etc. Actual performance will likely be better in your garden than what is indicated.
We stand behind everything we sell. In the coming years we will have more emphasis on patterns and broken colors, but our interests are many , and this is reflected in our introductions. Hope you can find something you like!

Don’t Step On The Ducks(Horns x Fantastic Fringe) 6"/35",MLa,Dor,Tet Two way,15 budsThree guys die together in an accident and go to heaven. When they get there, St. Peter says, "We only have one rule here in heaven: Don't step on the ducks!" So they enter heaven, and sure enough, there are ducks all over the place. It is almost impossible not to step on a duck, and although they try their best to avoid them, the first guy accidentally steps on one. Along comes St. Peter with the ugliest woman he has ever seen. St. Peter chains them together and says, "Your punishment for stepping on a duck is to spend eternity chained to the ugly woman!" The next day, the second guy steps accidentally on a duck, and along comes St. Peter, who doesn't miss a thing, and with him is another extemely ugly woman. He chains them together with the same admonishment as for the first guy. The third guy has observed all this and not wanting to be chained for all eternity to an ugly woman, is very, VERY careful where he steps. He manages to go months without stepping on any ducks, but one day St. Peter comes up to him with the most gorgeous woman he has ever laid eyes on: a very tall, tan, curvaceous, sexy blonde. St. Peter chains them together without saying a word. The guy remarks, "I wonder what I did to deserve being chained to you for all of eternity?" She says, "I don't know about you, but I stepped on a duck!" Don't Step On The Ducks has firebrick red petals with light yellow sepals--a bicolor with slight midribs and teeth on all segments. It's fertile both ways. It's about the perfect height for my tastes.I hope to see some kids next summer. $125/SF

Immodest Little Goddess

Howard 2021

(My Ruffy x Thistles And Thorns)
6"/33", MLa, Dor, Tet
Three way, 17 buds

Dark violet with toothy white, light yellow edge and green throat. Fertile both ways. I have gotten a lot of good results from using Karol Emmerich's plants, and this one is no exception. The name comes from an Alice Cooper song, Genuine American Girl. Bud count is from this year when all counts were down from near-drought conditions. Alice has been around for a while but this is from his (yes, his) 2017 album "Paranormal".

Phil Douville

Howard 2021

Flash Mob X unknown
6.25"/40",MLa,Dor,Tet
4-way branching,20 buds

Maroon with large yellow green eye zone. Fertile both ways. Inherits the good plant habit of its pod parent, Flash Mob. It's named for a club member who passed away in 2020.

The plant is vigorous, just as Phil was a hard worker for CDS. It is open and welcoming and cheerful -and Phil was that way with everyone he met. He liked purple daylilies and will be missed by many.

You'll Poke Your Eye Out

Howard 2021

((Wallingford Woolly Bully x Voracious Vixen) x Deadliest Catch)
5.5"/37",La,Dor,Tet
4 way branching,22 buds

Pale violet red with toothy edge and slight midribs with intermittent cresting, with toothy petaloid tissue. So glad I finally have enough to introduce this late blooming beauty. Fertile both ways. Thank you to Tom Polston for introducing Deadliest Catch--such a good parent.

The look goes back to our Wallingford Woolly Bully, which throws a lot of these toothy cresting kids. Stats were taken this year in near drought conditions and may be better in most years.

This was a phrase my parents would use when I was engaged in any sort of activity that might result in damage to my eyes. It was made famous in the movie "A Christmas Story". I have not poked an eye out--yet.
